The
Uttaradit Provincial Red Cross, a branch of the Thai Red Cross Society, is
dedicated to promoting public health and improving the quality of life for
residents of Uttaradit province. Through home visits, the organization has
identified a significant number of bedridden patients and individuals with
physical disabilities who require assistance with daily activities.
Prolonged
bed rest can lead to the development of pressure ulcers, painful sores that
occur when pressure is applied to the skin for an extended period. These ulcers
often develop over bony areas and can cause severe discomfort, infections, and
other complications.
In
response to this pressing issue, the Uttaradit Provincial Red Cross has
launched a project to produce air mattresses from recycled dialysis bags.
Numerous studies have shown that these innovative mattresses can effectively
prevent pressure ulcers, particularly in bedridden patients. The high-quality
dialysis bags used in the mattresses are durable, flexible, and breathable,
providing optimal comfort and support.
According
to statistics from the Uttaradit Provincial Public Health Office, there are
currently 503 bedridden patients in the province. Recognizing the urgent need
for such medical devices, the Uttaradit Provincial Red Cross has initiated a
project to produce over 500 air mattresses for underprivileged bedridden
patients.
By providing these specialized mattresses, the organization aims to alleviate the suffering of bedridden patients, improve their quality of life, and reduce the burden on their families and caregivers.
