In
the fleeting hours after a final breath, a pair of eyes can become a "New
Light" for someone else. However, that opportunity depends entirely on a
system that must work with absolute precision against the clock.
Every
time an eye donation occurs, Thai Red Cross Eye Bank relies on specialized
medical equipment to meticulously evaluate the quality of the corneal tissue.
After recovery, the eyes are cared for under strict sterile room standards and
undergo a delicate preservation process to maintain their integrity until they
reach the surgeon's hands. Because in this mission, the smallest error could
mean a lost lifetime of opportunity for a patient.
Time
never waits. Our recovery teams must reach the donor within a critical 6-hour
window nationwide. An urgent logistics system is therefore the
"heartbeat" that transforms a donor’s intention into a reality for
those waiting in darkness.
For
donors and their families, this is not an end, but the beginning of a "Mission
to Pass on Life." Our staff works with the utmost care—screening for
infectious diseases, ensuring proper legal consent from relatives, and
performing the recovery with profound respect and solemnity. After the
procedure, the donor's body is restored and sutured with great delicacy to
preserve their dignity and physical integrity before being returned to the
family for religious rites.
Donated
eyes are transported to Thai Red Cross Eye Bank to enter high-level cleanrooms
for corneal processing. The tissue is preserved in specialized solutions and
analyzed using advanced cell-analysis technology.
A
unique advantage of corneal transplantation is that tissue matching is not
required. This means patients do not need immunosuppressant drugs, allowing for
faster recovery and an easier transition to seeing the world again through new
eyes. Every step is driven by Thai Red Cross Eye Bank’s dedication to turning
the "final wish of a giver" into a "perfect new life
for a receiver."
Your
donation today is more than just financial support—it is a vital part of this
mission to forward the light. We require an annual budget of 4 million THB
to ensure that no donor’s gift goes to waste and to help the 13,330 patients
(as of November 31, 2025) currently on the waiting list regain their sight and
hope.
Thai
Red Cross Society invites you to turn darkness into light and transform a
farewell into a new beginning.
